The Wednesday Read: Bullock/Fox, Wall Debate, Lie of the Year, & More

There’s no sense in doing a lot of barking if you don’t really have anything to say. – Charles M. Schulz

Today’s topics include:

  • Bullock & Fox
  • The Wall Debate
  • 2018 Lie of the Year
  • One More Thing

Bullock & Fox:

The Montana Supreme Court sided with Montana Governor Steve Bullock (D) and overruled Attorney General Tim Fox (R) in regard to conservation easements.

It wasn’t even a narrow decision with six of the seven justices siding with Bullock. The decision probably hurt Fox more than it helped Bullock.

Those boring state land board meetings just got a little more interesting.

There are rumors that Fox will run for Governor. Bullock is exploring a presidential run and he is term-limited from running for governor again. Some people want Bullock to run for U.S. Senate against Steve Daines.

You can read the Associated Press story HERE.

The Wall Debate:

It was an instant classic with President Donald Trump, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) arguing in front of the press about the funding for the border wall during a meeting in the oval office Tuesday.

The next two years should be a lot of fun to watch with these three!

Trump seems to want to shut down the government to get his way:

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country don’t want criminals and people that have lots of problems and drugs pouring into our country.”

“I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it,” Trump said.

Trump wants $5 billion for the border wall. Democrats want to give him between one and two billion.

The Debt Clock shows we are approaching $22 trillion in debt. It does not appear either side of the political aisle cares about spending any more.

I also wonder what happened to the following promise from Trump:

I would build a great wall, and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me, and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great great wall on our southern border and I’ll have Mexico pay for that wall.

Right now the Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House, and there’s talk of shutting down the government. I don’t see things getting better in January when the Democrats control the House.

It seems when the government does shut down, the blame mostly goes to the Republicans. (CNN) We won’t have to worry about the next one since Trump already owns this shutdown due to his remarks (above) so we won’t have to argue about that…

2018 Lie of the Year:

The fact-checking website PolitiFact has released their readers’ poll results “Lie of the Year” and it’s really no surprise that it came from President Donald Trump. He said the following during a rally in North Carolina on October 26, 2018:

The Democrats want to invite caravan after caravan of illegal aliens into our country. And they want to sign them up for free health care, free welfare, free education, and for the right to vote.

As for PolitiFact, they selected the smears against the students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School where a mass shooting killed 17. Rumors and online smears about students being actors or from a communist country were spread across the internet.

There are a lot of ignorant people posting false/fake stories on the internet. Thanks to PolitiFact for their help in exposing false/fake stories.
