The Wednesday Read: The Three Stooges

A single lie discovered is enough to create doubt in every truth expressed. –Anonymous

In a perfect world, Republican President Donald Trump would say he wanted $5.7 billion for a border wall and Democrats Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi would counter with a $3 billion offer. They would then find a compromise somewhere in between and we’d all live happily ever after.

But that is not the case across the fruited plains in today’s reality TV approach. The three stooges go on television in primetime and state their cases to the American people while interrupting their TV shows.

As for Trump, he has been caught lying so much that people cannot believe anything he says. There are some in his base of support that will believe whatever he says, but he is tainted as a liar to most people with half a brain.

Trump became “teleprompter Trump” for a few minutes Tuesday night, and his selling of a border wall fell short. Trump said there is “a growing humanitarian and security crisis at our southern border.” I thought I saw tears forming in Trump’s eyes when he was explaining his reasoning for wanting a wall. He really wants to win this for Hannity, Coulter, and Limbaugh.

Trump may still get his wall, but he may need to do it by declaring a national emergency. I kind of hope he does declare a national emergency so I can see how executive power plays out in the courts.

As for Chuck and Nancy, they looked silly delivering their speech. I tweeted that they needed to be holding a pitchfork with a barn in the background to set the scene. Someone else said they looked like parents waiting at home when you missed curfew.

Nancy said they wanted to give us facts instead of fear. Chuck said, “The symbol of America should be the Statue of Liberty, not a 30-foot wall.”

Did the three stooges change minds? Nope. They did accomplish making people more pissed at their government.

On Friday if the shutdown continues, thousands of federal government workers won’t be paid. The press will find these people and highlight some of the hardships the shutdown is causing them. More people will grow angry at Trump, who said very early in this circus, that he owns the shutdown.

Meanwhile, this is day 19 of the partial federal government shutdown.

In the immortal words of the late Representative Jim Traficant (D-Ohio), “Beam me up!”
