The Founding Fathers gave the free press the protection it must have to bare the secrets of government and inform the people. – Hugo Black

Today’s commentary deals with:

  • Chelsea Manning
  • Government Shutdown
  • Aaron & Danica
  • Football

Chelsea Manning for U.S. Senate:

In case you missed it, Chelsea Manning, a transgender former U.S. Army soldier imprisoned for seven years after being convicted of leaking classified military documents to WikiLeaks, has filed papers to run for the U.S. Senate in Maryland as a Democrat. (ABC News)

Her first campaign video has a Montana connection.

The video shows someone going into a Field Office of U.S. Senator Steve Daines. It’s at the 0:33 mark of the video.

Manning would sure shake up the stuffy old senate if she were elected.

Government Shutdown:

This week we get to look forward to talk of a government shutdown and the blame game that goes along with it. They need to do something before Saturday to prevent it.

The key thing to remember is the Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. If the government is not funded, it is entirely the Republicans’ fault.

It might be good for everyone to step back and take a break for a week or so…

Celebrity News:

Aaron Rodgers and Danica Patrick are dating. Patrick is a Chicago Bears fan and Rodgers plays for the Green Bay Packers.

I don’t know why I am writing about this.

I do wonder how his dog in the State Farm commercials is handling Rodgers’ new romance. Heck, I wonder how Clay Matthews is handling it…

Football:

I only picked one of the four games correctly this past weekend. Although that is bad, I am just four points out of first place in the GF Tribune’s football contest. I still have not won any KFC chicken this year. I like KFC.

It was a great weekend for football – fun games to watch.

Here are my *predictions* for this Sunday:

  • New England over Jacksonville
  • Minnesota over the Philadelphia

The Vikings will be at home for the Super Bowl where they will lose to Tom Brady and the Patriots.

*Don’t bet your house, car, and/or life savings on any of my predictions…
